Most of my life I have lived in a part of Canada that sees a lot of snow. Sometimes we experience temperatures (with wind chill) into the -50's. Often we have so much snow in our yards that the landscaping beneath remains a complete mystery to out of town visitors, something to look forward to in the spring. Admittedly I am not a person who looks forward to winter. I don't ski or snowboard, I don't enjoy the extreme cold or the dry skin the season inevitably brings. But I am determined to change that. My doctor prescribed me snowshoeing this winter. He thinks it would be an activity that would be good for me through the winter months. I can't help but agree. It is simple enough, there isn't much of a financial commitment, and I do love how the snow looks on the trees.
So in honor of this plan to embrace the season, I want to reflect on some of the things I love about the winter.
A stroll through the snow on a night where the sky is dark early, there is no wind, you can breathe in the chill of the air and enjoy the way the snow looks as it falls over streetlights.
Having tea by the fire and watching the snow fall. The morning and early afternoon are both great times to do this, and the snow topped roofs make it look like a winter wonderland.
All the holiday lights. We don't observe any religion in our home but we love the Christmas season. For me, it is a time of family, lights, classic Christmas songs like "Let it Snow."
The fashion! The coats, the scarves, the touques, the mitts. And hopefully I can add snowshoeing to this list. On top of that I hope to make a snowman with the girls this year:)
Hope you are enjoying the season, no matter the weather!
