I wrote this poem on November 12, 2020. I can't believe I haven't been on here for over two months, I miss it! Blogging these last 16 months has reminded me just how much I love writing poems and essays. This blog makes me feel connected to myself in a way I haven't since childhood. This poem is about the peaceful memories in an otherwise very rocky upbringing.
Moss-layered, rain-soaked concrete
Run your hands along,
Breathe deep, sea and cedar trees,
Where you always belonged.
The bitter sting of freezing waves,
Crash into your knees,
The beach alone, the storm alive,
You never felt so free.
Faint smell, gasoline on water,
A calm and quiet day,
Rain forest, ferns and driftwood,
Starfish in the bay.
Island time, rain or shine,
Inexplicable magic,
To never know this feeling,
Would be nothing short of tragic.
